sunday: woke up late-ish and called the mother and grandmother 'bout mother's day. waited around until the library opened so i could go study for music midterm. studied there for a couple of hours and got really interested in learning to play debussey's clair de lune so i got that to go play at ccs (saw shauna randomly at the library as well). wasted some time (read: played shoot 'em up games) until the alice in wonderland meeting which was followed by stealing the student's party sign left over from campus elections. on the way back home i saw david landes who invited me to marissa/shauna's place for dinner and hangage which was fun for a while 'till i went back home to sleep.
monday: woke up early to work on music midterm some more and went through the long day of classes, and finally got to use my library pick-up line on marissa. "hey baby, are you on reserve? because i'd like to check you out!" anyways, did some building of some tables for alice. i really like working in the woodshop with the tools and stuff and hopefully this summer i'll get the time to do some quality wood working.
tuesday: class. wasted time (TFC). chem lab (such shenanigans that class). saw jeff (last year ra) and had a nice talk with him, should see him more often. took a long walk home for a sleeps.
wednesday: woke up too late and skipped ryavec's class. later found out that he started on the combinatorics problem he's been working on with omer, but i got the most of it the second half later in the day. follows was combination of wasting time and working followed by class where i did me some sudoku. evening has tapered off with some alice set building and now i shall go watch the first half of the season finale of lost. that show is some crazy ass shit. |

i've decided I'm going to try to keep this thing like a real journal. i happen to always forget what happens in my life, so it's a good way to keep a log. we'll see what happens of it.
we'll begin from friday, 'cause that's when i meant to actually do this.
woke up early-ish to study for the ochem midterm, which entailed that i read a bunch of the book which i never actually get around to do until a little before the tests. i've learned that if i make use of the morning hours before my classes, i can get a a lot of work done and not overwhelm myself (or really do any work at all) in the evenings. i also did some work on my cs230 homework which the night before i realized chris and i had done a third of it wrong. i then made my way over to engineering around 10 where i found arturo (theoretical computation lab friend and t.a. for cs230) who helped me out a bit before i had to run off to gen chem (boo) where i studied ochem some more which came right after at noon. i did pretty well on the midterm and at this point we paragraph break because i took a bit of a break.
anyways, in the next two hours chris and i finished up as much as the 230 homework as we could and even had a chance to stop in at the cs coffee hour where they had ice cream floats. once i turned that homework in at 3 i went over to the music library to try to read the book for the music instruments of the world course, but couldn't because some other guys were using it, so instead i just went home where i happened to meet henry and walk with him.
i don't remember the next couple of hours because i probably just passed out as the week was finally over.
anyways, as per usual friday night routine i headed over to the hillel where some good jew action was had, including an always fun dinner with shauna, david, ari, and new people. this was then follwed by a short stop at the chabad where i ate even more until i left to go to shauna's place. there, there was tasting of some peppermint schnapps and a couple shots o' patron (have been meaning to try it). the patron, as most tequilas, aparently required limes, so i ran across the street to freeb!rds to steal some. now, this is only the second time i've entered that establishment since september (since i had started to go to el taco amigo (will be explained some other time)), the other time i was essentially forced by out-of-towners. anyway, i felt justified as i was just stealing from them, so it was to their detriment that entered the place. anyway, david and ari show up and we all (sans david, who happened to dissapear into the bathroom for a long while) had ourselves some tequila. we then gave up on going out into i.v. and just lounged about the place until i left.
next day, as per usual saturday morning routine, i went myself to chabad for some jewness and large lunch. came home and took a nap for an hour or so until i was waken by christopher j coakley (he has taken the place of my mother in always managing to call me while i'm napping). some el taco amigo followed, followed then by him flirting with my housemates and me spending a couple hours on google video. but what's more important than any of that is dr. tran and roybertitos. trust me.
contacted the henry and we went down to woodstocks (as the amigo was closed, as there is not much business since he got his liquor liscence revoked) followed by some dp walking where there were some parties and henry got his groove on with some of the lady folk. as it was nearing midnight and all big parties in iv must be shut down because of stupid laws, we soon left to go to marissa/shauna's place where i left henry and david to their duties. at this point i decided it would be nice to visit the ol' "stomping groups" as it were and went to pendola (the old dorm) to hang out with peoples who happened to be watching a movie. anyways, that happened and then i went home.
such is the exciting life of mine. a 'day in the life' or two, as it once were. |

these school days just leave me beat. 7:30am wake up for a 40 minute walk to campus for a day filled with classes. i tried really hard to take less than 20 units this quarter, but once i actually went over that, i just broke the dam and picked up putnam seminar, TAing pete's class, taking pete and chris' branch and cut something or other graduate seminar all in addition to my two grad compsci classes, chem class/chem lab, upper div music class and the 5-series calc classes in one quarter with ryavec.
free time i spend on campus is being used to try but ultimately not do any work on my agc research which, although at some point we thought we had down, is now looking impossible once again because of an error we have in lemma 11 (if you can point out the error, i'll give you a prize). in somewhat related news, although i was getting a small stipend to work on the agcs this summer though ccs, i am no longer getting any. today, at break during suri's class, i was talking to him about stuff including the research when he brings up that he's got some money from an nsf grant that he has to spend on an undergraduate and that some time later in the quarter when i've learned some more advanced algorithms, i could probably start working for him and get money for it too. this was totally sweet.
this weekend was susanna and i's birthday. stacie and eleanor were awesome enough to cook dinner for the house and friends (including a sweet ass cake) totalling to 13 people. the evening also included a game of settler's of catan (an amazing board game) and cranium.
last night i finally finished season 5 of stargate. this is a joyous event because the last two seasons have been terrible and season 6 looks like it's going to be awesome (even jay says so). |

this is just going to be snippets of small things i've been meaning to put up and it will probably be updated as the day progresses:
-- it turns out my entire summer research boiled down to my professor telling me to "divide it by two." because of this, I will probably be published in some math journal and will be going to some small math convention or something.
-- if you have my The Transporter dvd, i would like it back. i realised some night ago that it was missing from my collection and i probably just let someone borrow it and forgot. also, transporter 2 is gonna be a kick ass movie
-- although i have not actually had to live with more than two of the girls at once yet, things seem like they're going to be fun. two more of the girls move in this weekend and two more get back from being out of town on tuesday or something. in related news, we're making one of the rooms into a library, which will be totally sweet
-- it's nice having friends over pretty much every single evening. and jay pretty much lives at my house anyway |

most people know i never like to talk about politics, but recently i've been reading the nytimes.com daily (and a lot of it as it is now my homepage) and i've come to the conclusion that i just don't trust elected officials. the public has no idea what is going on in the world and they'll just elect someone without knowing what their capabilities are. as such i'm begining to trust appointed officials much much more. example: presedent bush, don't trust him, but his secretary of state ol' condi? yeah, i trust her to be able to do her job correctly. pretty much i just dislike the entire legislative branch now. where i'm going with all of this? i dunno, you tell me |

1) for my own (and i guess for others') remembrance and use: Online Mathematics Textbooks
2) today during my number theory midterm i learned to never give up when you still have time. when starting the test of 4 questions i got problem 3 and most of 4 right off the bat but i was completely lost on 1 and 2. but just by staring at the problem for minutes after minutes i finally got them. i went from probably failing the class to getting a rather good grade (i think) in a matter of like 30 minutes. i'm rather happy with myself |

wow, i finally have some time off to relax and sit in my own room with nothing to do but relax and contemplate writing a livejournal entry.
my life has been so busy lately with things and it's mind boggling when i get a chance to do nothing. i'm taking 30 units of classes, i'm doing some research on the side, i'm CFO for putting on a production of hamlet on the moon, i try to help prospective students come to ccs when i can (i really should do more of that) and the past few weekends i'm been so busy with either going back to la for something or projects, but this weekend i just get off and get to do pretty much nothing. i am content and happy.
also, i happened to watch an advanced screening of hitchiker's guide on wednesday which was quite fun, especially because jay and i (but mostly jay) got 27 people or so of us to go together |
